WHAT IS GLOBAL SHAPERS COMMUNITY?
Global Shapers Community, a diverse network of young people driving dialogue, action and change. In 2011, Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum founded the Global Shapers Community to play an active role in shaping local, regional and global agendas. The Forum’s contribution to the Shapers organization includes significant financial and in-kind contributions for operational support.
This is a global network of inspiring and enthusiastic youths who addresses different local, regional, and global challenges through different hub activities. There are 443 hubs around 150 countries where more than 13,000 young individuals are connected through this platform. Every year, representatives from different hubs meet at Davos to discuss the future challenges and activities for the hubs. The primary focus of the hubs is to bring driven young individuals together and initiate different projects to address the needs of their community.
The Dhaka Hub has been playing a great role in connecting social impact leaders from different backgrounds on the same platform since it joined the Shapers Community in 2013. The hub is actively running different projects i.e. Treelionaire, Taalgoal, Green Walk. Dhaka Hub Shapers also contributed to the betterment of the situation during Covid-19 crisis by arranging awareness sessions, vegetable markets for disadvantaged communities etc. We have also arranged Shape South Asia successfully in 2018 where shapers from different hubs joined to create greater connectivity and collaboration.
With more than 50% of the world’s population under the age of 27, the voice of youth is increasingly more relevant to the Forum’s commitment to improving the state of the world. According to Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab; “What we are doing here is not something which is new or innovative. What we are doing here is something compulsory.” This generation has inherited enormous global challenges, but has the ability to confront the status quo and offer youth-led solutions for change.
WHO ARE THE GLOBAL SHAPERS?
Global Shapers are young, motivated individuals who are ready to use their skills and opportunities to make a difference in the communities and the wider world. Aged under 30, shapers, collectively work with ideas and solutions to address different challenges on local as well as global scale.
Shapers are the social impact leaders coming from a vast range of backgrounds, careers and interests. Our members include entrepreneurs, development practitioners, lawyers, academicians, tech- experts and many others.
One common characteristic of shapers is that we all are motivated to bring positive changes through our work and commit to the hub to contribute in different initiatives through taking an active role. While shapers are bringing different ideas to the platform, the hub tries to catalyze these solutions to the most pressing challenges through in person and virtual interactions.
WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY?
Hubs around the world, encourage inclusion, collaboration and exploration of community solutions. Becoming a shaper enables individuals to connect with other passionate youths who are actively contributing in driving challenges. This is a scope to meet the like minded people, share experience and receive guidance. Here, everyone works with harmony which grows out of networking and becomes a place of real friendship !
As Shapers, we have the exceptional opportunity to launch and participate in projects with the support from the community and WEF. Please find impacts created by different hubs around the world in this link
The hub encourages shapers through cross mentoring and experience sharing sessions. These sessions also invite different inspiring personals from different sectors to share their journey and challenges to motivate the young shapers.
